Rather than sit at the screen all day, I decided to take a walk around the immediate local area whilst the family were all out and about.

The Pierhead and The Gun captures the one of the newer buildings on the island and one of the older too. The Pierhead development was completed just in time for the apartment owners to move in and enjoy an uninterupted view across the Thames to the fesivities at the Millenium Dome on New Year's Eve 1999. The Gun is one of the oldest pubs in the area (previously derelict but under renovation now) and was the reputed rendezvous for Lord Horatio Nelson and Lady Hamilton on their nights together.

Walking beneath the tallest tower of the development, I turned and looked up at the building in relief against the stormy sky. Upon checking the shot, I noticed the seagull wheeling above the penthouse, looking down on me.

Walking past The Gun, I was intrigued by the imprint of a long-gone gable room left on high on a wall next to a window. What was the building that had stood there? Crossing the road, I walked round the marina at Poplar Dock, quietly jealous of the seemingly happy-go-lucky boat dwellers mooching about doing chores on deck and painting their boats.
